CHARITY MATCH IN LEEDS LEEDS RIFLES ELEVEN v. LEEDS UNITED. INTERESTING PLAY: ATTENDANCE DISAPPOINTING.

A match in aid of the Women's and Children's Hospital took place last evening at the Elland Road ground, but the attendance was disappointing, and the institution will only receive about £10 as a result of the effort. The whole of the expenses of the match were defrayed by Colonel Tetley, the commanding officer of the Leeds Rifles. Most of the players in the military eleven were connected with the battalion during the war.

For an exhibition match, play was always interesting, and the whole of the goals scored were the result of either smart combination or clever individualism. Goals began to materialise very early. Hart (centre-half-back) heading through for the United in three minutes, and Powell following with another for the home club sixteen minutes later. The United played the better and more combined game in the first half, but at the end of twenty-seven minutes Seed supplied Parker with a fine opening, and the centre forward scored for the Rifles. A minute before the interval Whalley (goalkeeper) put his side further ahead from a penalty, Waddington having handled the ball, and at half-time Leeds United led by three goals to one.

The second half was decidedly more in favour of the Rifles than the first portion, Seed and Parker showing flashes of brilliancy at times but the United maintained the upper hand. Powell scored again, and Harvey put the ball into the net for the Rifles. Powell obtained his third goal a little later, and Seed with smart goal finished the scoring.
